What’s up contractor community, Reggie here from The Contractor Social Media Guru back today with more Google My Business advice. Today we’re going to be taking a look at how you can turn your Google Maps or Google My Business listing into a “LEAD GENERATION MACHINE!”
Before we go further I’d like to point out that GMB is not to be slept on if you’re looking to dominate your local service areas. If you’re a contractor & You’re not listed you better get going! Chances are your competition has been taking advantage of GMB for ages already & that’s why their piece of the piece is so darn big come month end!

Complete your entire Google My Business listing.
This might sound like something that doesn’t help you generate business in any form or way but you’d be surprised at the difference it makes. When we say “Complete” your listing we mean absolutely everything down from your listing title to your services offered & every single thing that falls in between.
A fully completed listing not only helps you rank better, but also helps Google connect you with the people who are looking for the services you offer. Take your time to go through everything and make sure you leave out nothing.
Include the services your contractor business offers in the listing name e.g “Luminarc Exterior - Roofing, Guttering & Siding in Ohio”.
This little nifty trick helps you dominate the Google search bar like you won’t believe. Including service keywords in your title in a way that appears natural helps local prospects find your contractor business listing.
Important to note is that Google has been removing profiles abusing the title line of their profile. Profiles with title tags including “false marketing” have been removed in recent weeks. A perfect example of this would be, “Roofing Kings - #1 Roofing Company in Ohio”
Include a local number in your GMB listing.
There really isn’t much more to say about this other than trust. In most cities and neighborhoods, supporting local business has become common practise and that applies to contractor type businesses too. Having a number that shows your local does wonders with regards to trust & rapport for your business.
Make sure your primary & secondary categories are listed correctly.
This is probably one of THE MOST IMPORTANT points to check on your list when it comes to optimizing your listing. MAKE DEAD SURE your primary & secondary business categories are listed correctly.
This helps potential prospects find your business much easier when browsing Google for contractors to help them with their specific needs. If your primary category is not listed correctly there is a good chance that Google is overlooking your profile when prospects search for your services.
Find a way to generate more high quality, honest reviews.
This really isn’t as hard as it sounds to most. There are 100’s of great ways to get reviews from clients that your contractor business have previously worked with. Our favorite method is simply “Just Ask”.
There are many great ways to generate reviews out there but many that work as well as outbound email & text services. Setting up a monthly outbound email or text with a link to leave your business a review works wonders. Businesses with more positive reviews rank better.
Generate constant, high quality branded, video & photo content to post to your Google My Business listing.
Last but not least it's important to note that the quality & consistency of your content play a large role. Google likes to see that your business is actively creating content on a daily basis and ranks your listing better for that.
Important to note is that creating content for the sake of content is going to get you nowhere. Keep the quality up high & the content educational. That way you maintain a place of authority in your local service area & amongst potential prospects.
Posting consistently also shows prospects that you are active and that others have trusted you to work on their homes or properties. What’s great about GMB is that you can go wild. We’d recommend posting up to 4 times a day when possible.
My closing 2c on the matter?...
The truth is this. THERE SIMPLY IS NO BETTER FREE LEAD GENERATION MACHINE that Google. You need to stop saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow” and make this a part of your daily routine before your competition totally gets the better of you.
